Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

Valparin (Sodium Valproate) is prescribed to treat patients suffering from seizure disorder (Tonic-clonic,Absence,Atypical absence,Myoclonic,Focal-onset,
Atonic seizures)
Side effects:
Neurologic:Ataxia,Sedation,Tremor
Systemic:Hepatotoxicity,Thrombocytopenia,Gastrointestinal irritation
Weight gain,Transient alopecia,Hyperammonemia

About 70% of children who have their seizures completely controlled with anti-epileptic drugs for 03 years can eventually discontinue the drugs. In most cases it is preferable to reduce the dose of the drug gradually over 2–3 months to remain seizure free after drug withdrawal.
