What Are The Side Effects Of Prolia?

Endocrinologist just recommended Prolia 60 mg/ml syringe. [Seven years on Foxamax 35 mg tab. Bone density test at two years showed improvement; retest five years later showed decreasing density. *I have had stable stage 3 kidney disease for 15 years with no decline in function with congenital one kidney.] I want to know the possible side effects if I start Prolia while endocrinologist & nephrologist monitor every six months. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Prolia is composed of 'denosumab', which is a monoclonal antibody. Monoclonal antibodies are made to target and destroy only certain cells in the body.
It is used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women who have high risk of bone fracture.
Common side effects of Prolia include: dermatitis, eczema and skin rash. Other side effects include: serious infection and hypercholesterolemia.
Kindly seek medical attention promptly if you experience any of the mentioned side effects.
Hope this helps.
All the best.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.,
