What Are The Side Effects Of Metoprolol Tartrate?

I am about to begin taking metoprolol tartrate for SVT. I am afraid to take any medicine let alone one that will affect my heart. I understand my doctor has my best interest, however, I am still afraid of the side effects and taking it long term. Any helpful advise?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I understand you're concerned about taking Metoprolol Tartrate. I want to reassure you that Metoprolol is a very common medication and is generally very safe. Most patients have no problems while taking Metoprolol, and for SVT, it can help prevent dangerous episodes of a very fast heart rhythm.

Metoprolol does have side effects, including dizziness, fatigue, and depression, so you should be aware of these symptoms, and if you start to notice them, tell your doctor. If this happens, usually the medication can be switched to another medication and the side effects go away.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch,
