Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i weigh 59 kg, i was bitten by a cat yesterday at about 9:15 p.m. I went to the hospital today morning and I was given a form to be filled by me in order to give consent to any side effects shown after administering ERIG. I was also given the option to go for HRIG but it was very expensive. Anyway I had to go to a pharmacy to buy HRIG and it was administered. What are the side effects of ERIG and HRIG?
ERIG is equine derived and hence carries more chances of side effects than HRIG, though both are safe when considered with the risk of not getting any of them after a bite.
Usual side effects are mainly related to reactions and site infections leading to headaches, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, itching, rash, allergic reaction, or injection site reactions (tenderness, pain, soreness, or stiffness of the muscles).
You should get your shots as prescribed by your doc, there are multiple regimens available and doctors choose according to the site or extent of the injury
Hope to have informed you sufficiently
Feel free to ask a new question if you have any other query
Thanks
