I have been taking medicine for hypothyroid since 5 years now at thyronorm 100mg. I have been having this aced reflux for more than a year not sure it is due to the thyroid medicine that i have been taking and now taking Drego - D on empty stomach. Is this medicine good or has greater side effects? If i dont take this Drego d i have started getting problems like chest tightness, chest pain (upper chest), body pain etc (if i take this medicine i can fee that gas like content is going away from chest, my back etc) is it normal?

Hi,

Your symptoms suggests acid peptic disease. It is unlikely related to thyronorm. Drego - D contains rabeprazole(acid suppressant) and domperidone(anti emetic). Both these drugs are very commonly used, and most patients tolerates well without much side effects.

If needed for more than 7 days, it's better to take plain Rabeprazole alone, with domperidone separately, only when needed.

Most of the times, we can stop after few days, sometimes taking upto 3 months. If symptoms recur after stoping, ideally we should do an endoscopy(OGD scopy) and biopsy before proceeding further. Your doctor will guide you.

Meanwhile avoid smoking, alcohol, spicy/fried food items. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables in diet and drink enough water. These measures will help reduce acidity symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
