What Are The Repercussions Of Overdosing On Tetanus Vaccine?

Hello Doctor, I have 2 questions 1. Does tetanus overdose cause any side-effects? I was supposed to take tetanus vaccine last month (the one we usually take once in 6 months). I m not sure if I had taken or not. So, I d like to get one more shot.. 2. I got an intradermal rabies vaccine on day 0,3,7,28 (on both deltoids on those 4 days). How long does that effect last? Thanks in advance. Regards, Kowsik

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

In theory, it should not cause a problem, but I am confused about why you would need a tetanus booster every 6 months.

After a primary series is completed, it is not necessary except every 10 years or if a person has a deep and dirty wound such as stepping on a nail then 5 years - at least that is the protocol in the United States.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
