What Are The Precautions To Be Taken Before Stoma Reversal Operations?
I am going to an ostomy reversal within a couple of weeks. I still have my anus muscles in place but they did not work for 3 years that I had had my ostomy connected in the cecum region, as they deviate my colon in order to do a rectum resection 3 years ago. What do you recommand to do before surgery to help recovery and bowel fonction? What about my anus muscle...anything that will help to put them back in shape?
As per my clinical experience, stoma reversal procedures do have excellent results with expert hands. Precautions to be followed for the surgery before hand: - Nil by mouth guidelines as per the anesthetic advise (usually 12 hours before procedure) - Clear liquids intake for previous day of procedure - Bowel preparation with Peglac solution day before surgery - Control of blood sugar - Sound regular sleep of 7 hours (if required mild sedative may be helpful in stressful situations) - Stop consumption of alcohol if applicable before 10 days of surgery
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
