What Are The Possible Treatments For Pleurisy And Viral Infection ?
Hello, I went to the ER a little more than 12 hours ago due to chest pain and the inability to keep any fluids. They discharged me on pleurisy and viral infection. I am still have a little pain in my chest, and I am continuing to vomit despite being given medicine. What is my next course of action?
Pleurisy is inflammation of the layers covering the lungs called as pleura. This inflammation may be caused by bacterial or viral infections and usually presents as chest pain on one side and this pain increases when you breathe deeply or cough. As you have been diagnosed with viral infection, this will heal as soon as your viral illness is cured. Viral infections are usually self limiting and heal within 7-10 days and treatment is only symptomatic. I suggest you take over the counter painkillers for the pleuritic pain. You will be be able to relieve pain by lying on the painful side or pressing a pillow against it. You will get better within a week, Wishing you a speedy recovery. Thanks.
