Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Herpes zoster is the possibility that I would like to keep over here. It is due to virus reactivation in the spinal root ganglion and subsequent spread along the nerve roots to the skin surface resulting in the formation of fluid filled blisters. The virus is the same which causes chicken pox (Varicella zoster virus). It lays dormant in the spinal root ganglion and gets reactivated later on in life probably as the immunity to it falls/weekens.

The lesions are usually distributed in a stripe/dermatome and may be associated with pain and weird sensations of tingling/ burning etc

Treatment is with oral antivirals like acyclovir 800mg, 5 times a day for a week. Pain can last long after the episode is cured, called post herpes neuralgia.

No special precautions are necessary to prevent it from recuring and it normally does'nt recurs very often.

regards
