What Are The Painful Lumps Under The Armpit?

for about a week my son has had a cough and cold and feeling achy, a few days ago I noticed painful lumps in armpit and now I have a cough and chest cold too, are the painful lumps just swollen lymph glands because of the viral infection we have in our house at the moment?

Hello dear,
It is not common for viral infection to cause lymph node enlargement in axilla.
It can be spots of soft tissue bacterial infection, especially if it is present on one side only(I guess he is not having an wound/infection on the hand).
The two can be easily distinguished on local examination. If it is bacterial infection,it needs antibiotic treatment.Your doctor might help you.
Hope you got cleared now.thank you.
