What Are The Chances Of Contracting HIV Through Contaminated Manicure Equipment Causing Minor Injuries?

I had done manicure 2 times in a week. Both the times I got cut and it bleed a bit. First time I got cut through a cuticle cutter and second time got cut through electric nail drill both at different salons. If the equipment were not sterilised, are there any chances of hiv infection ?

Hello,

Sharing equipment's like cuticle cutter, razor blades, electric nail drill is not advisable unless they are fully sterilized after each use. Any kind of cut using an unsterilized object, mentioned above, can transmit HIV if there is a cut, tear or trauma in the skin. You are advised to get clinically examined and evaluated, get required blood tests done to detect if you are infected.

In case of post exposure to the said infection, your treating doctor will give you a short course of HIV medicines after a possible exposure to HIV to prevent the virus from taking hold in your body. You must take the course of medicine within 72 hours after a possible exposure to HIV, or it won’t work.
