What Are The Causes And Treatment For 4 Year Old With Green Mucus?

Hi my 4 year old has had a chesty cough and green think runny nose for over a week now, would he need an antibiotic? He has had no temperature are anything I've just been told that usually if your nose runs green that there is an infection.

Hello. Thank you for your question. I am sorry your son is not well. In general, the color of the discharge is less important than the duration of symptoms and whether he is getting better or worse. Cough and runny nose that lasts for a week or more without improvement, regardless of the color, regardless of age, warrants a consultation with the doctor. As you stated, this may require an antibiotic in order to resolve.
