What Are The Causes And Remedies Of Face Swelling ?

I have a friend whose husband's face has been swelling. A few weeks ago he had the left side of his forehead swollen and puffy and now it is his forehead and cheek. He doesn't want to go to the doctor and she is really worried about him. Could this be allergies or something worse?
