Thanks for posting your question on HCM!
I can understand your problem with regards to safety of Actonel.
Age and gender not mentioned.
Actonel (
Risedronate) is used in the treatment and prevention of
osteoporosis in females (post menopausal) and elderly males. It acts by increasing the bone mineral density thereby increase the bone strength.
The most common side effects seen with the use of Actonel include:
Inflammation of food pipe (
esophagitis & oesophageal ulcers.
This can be prevented by taking the drug with a full glass of water before the first meal of the day & remaining upright for 30 minutes),
Diarrhea,
abdominal pain.
Besides taking the above medicine you should take calcium and vitamin D3 and lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise.
Exercise plays a key role in preserving
bone density in older adults. :
Weight-bearing exercises: walking, jogging, playing tennis,
Free weights, weight machines, stretch bands
Balanced exercises yoga
Rowing machines, etc.
I hope I have clarified your doubts, should you need more clarifications, please do not hesitate in sending your queries.
Best regards!
