Waking Up In Morning With Dry Mouth After Started Taking Caumadin For Clots

Dr. Grief. Lately when I wake up in the morning my mouth is so dry it almost make me gag. Sometimes this happens during the day. This is a new thing for me. I just started taking Coumadin for two clots I got when I was in the hospital the first part of July. Thank you. Shirley M.

Hi Shirley,

The dry mouth you have might be related to:
- sore throat due to recent common cold/flu
- candida infection of the mouth
- diabetes
- dehydration

I suggest to:
- get physically examined by an ENT specialist
- do culture of your mouth swab for candida
- measure your blood sugar levels
- measure blood electrolytes

for further evaluation and to start proper treatment.

Meanwhile, I advise to:
- keep a good oral hygiene
- eat healthy foods
- drink more water
- do frequent oral gargle

Hope it helped!
