Ultrasound Shows Gall Stones. Bloated Abdomen, Stomach Pain, Constipation. Related Symptoms?

I was told that I have many gallstones. I had an ultrasound done and am now waiting for my appointment with the surgeon. Can you tell me of this problem would be the cause of my abdomen being extremely bloated all the time? I have alot of burning pain in middle of my stomach(upper) and indigestion, constipation, and at times diareah. I have the same burning in my lower left and right side of my stomach. Occasionally the area around my belly button gets very hard and almost feels like there is something that moves around when pressed on. Could you tell me what you think this may be from? If not the gallstones?

Gastroenterologist 's  Response
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).

The symptoms you have mentioned are not due to gallstones as it cause billiary colic (a form of severe abdominal pain that peaks in 1 hour and subsides itself in around 6 hours), Cholecytitis which is also a severe pain may be associated with jaundice or fever.

The symptoms you are having is due to a disease known as IBS-M (Irritable bowel syndrome- mixed type) if you don't have any alarming features

Few things to know about IBS:
1. Is a chronic disease which has relapsing and remitting course
2. It will never harm you even if it will persist for whole life
3. Stress, life events, and anxiety leads to aggravation of symptoms
4. Intestine becomes hypersensitive so even discomfort is perceived as pain
5. Increase gas production leading to abdominal fullness and bloating
6. No alarming features like weight loss, gastrointestinal bleeding, or fever

What all you have to do is:
1.See whether milk or milk products worsen your symptoms, if yes, please avoid them
2.Take Tablet gasex by Himalaya. It helps in relieving gaseous symptoms like bloating, flatulence.
3.Take antispasmodic like Tab mebeverine
4.Avoid fatty meals
5. Don't lie down soon after meals for at least half hour
6. If you are overweight or obese do weight reduction with dieting and exercise
7. Avoid smoking if you do
8.Take some prokinetic agent like domperidone and a proton pump inhibitor likerabeprazole
9. Take Tablet that contain enzymes protease, amylase, lipase with meals

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
