Ultrasound Of Carotid Arteries Shows Stenosis. Prescribed Aspirin. Family History Of Heart Disease. Have Diabetes

I had an Ultrasound done on my carotid arteries and the impression read: Less than 50% stenosis of the bilateral internal carotid arteries by NASCET criteria. My general doc said all I need to do is take a low dose aspirin; watch my diet, cholesterol and blood pressure. Should I make an appointment with a heart specialist to further investigate. I do have a family history of heart disease, both parents, and all four of my brothers. I am a diabetic, take meds for cholesterol and blood pressure. Thank You so much! Mary Lee

Hi,
Thank you for asking question on health care magic
It is better that you have an appointment with cardiologist and get the 2D Echo done to know whether to continue medication or go in for a stent.
Hope this answer will serve your purpose
