Ulcers On The Tonsils After Getting Wisdom Tooth Extracted. On Antibiotics. Recovery Time?

Hi I had two wisdom teeth extracted last tue n have since developed ulcers on my tonsils. I think it is caused by the trauma and a viral infection from the wisdom tooth surgery. I'm currently on antibiotics but the pain from the ulcers is still there. Is there anything I can do to treat it? Will it get more infected because my antibiotics medicine finishes tomorrow. How long will it take to recover? The pain is really uncomfortable:( thanks for ya advice.

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

In case of third molar extraction, sometimes traumatic ulcers do occur, but please do not get worried about it .

It will automatically heal within a week.

As you have already taken a course of antibiotic no need to take another course especially for ulcers.it will be effective for ulcer too.

Locally you can do frequent warm saline rinses very gently as you have got healing sockets in your mouth.

Along with pain killers you are taking ,you can also take vitamin B for next 15 days for speedy recovery.Apply dologel to approachable areas locally.

As you have mentioned the lesion is on posterior palate(tonsils) you can also do antiseptic mouth rinses twice daily for five days.

Hope this should help.

If symptoms still persists you can visit your dentist for clinical evaluation.

Take care.

Thanks.

It looks like that after tooth extraction you have developed haematoma. This is a common problem after the wisdom teeth extraction. This haematoma will dissolve itself with time as the healing of extraction sockets take place. Maintain very good oral hygiene and make sure that this haematoma is not irritated. It is better to get an appointment with dentist and get his opinion also as it is difficult for me to give the advice with clinical examination

Hello there ,

Thanks for writing your query,

Extraction of wisdom tooth often ends with complications like pain and swelling post extraction .

ulceration on the tnsills is may be due to chnaged food habits , deficeincy of certain vitamins or viral infection.

After extraction antibiotic and analgesic coverage is must to prevent infection of the extraction site and to promote healing of the surrounding tissues.

i would suggest you to start with a antibiotic and analgesic course consulting your dentist , which helps in subsiding the symptoms.

follow all the post extraction instructions and rinse the mouth with lukewarm saline or antiseptic mouth rinse.

usually it takes 7 to 10 days for the symptoms to resolve, drink lot of water and keep yourself hydrated.

i hope this helps ,

take care.

Thank you for your question.ulcer on the tonsils has no relation with extraction of wisdom teeth.you have got apthous ulcer.it is one kind of recurrent ulcer which occurs due to folling reasons like;
1.stress
2.hormonal disbalace
3.genetic
4.menstruation
you have to reduce your mental stress.there is no actual treatment for this but you may use antibiotic mouthwash, vit b12 tablts, and before meal you may apply anaesthetic mouth wash to enjoy your food as gel form is difficult to apply there.it is self limiting and will be cured by itself.you should avoid hot, spicy food for time being.before meal you may rinse with warm saline and spitt it,you will feel better.wish you good health.
