Treated For Lyme Disease. Become Symptomatic, Tested Positive. Taking Oral Antibiotics. How To Cure?
I am an orthodontist with a teenaged patient treated for Lyme disease in March. Symptom free after 30 days IV antibiotics. Became symptomatic again and tested positive recently. Now almost done with 21 day course oral antibiotics. Mother states patient still moderately symptomatic. Unsure what to do. No Lyme experts in our area.
Hi, Welcome to HCM. I understand your concern, but Lymes disease has a varied presentation and it is usually missed in the early stages. Once the disease progresses to chronic stage it is very difficult to control the complications. Regular follow up becomes necessary as patients may develop arthritis, neuropathies and dermatitis. The best way to deal with this disease is adequate rest, rheumatology opinion for joint pains if present. Once patient is healthy enough then I would suggest a healthy diet and regular exercise regime to maintain fitness and health. Thanks.
