Took Novacaine Shots For A Filling, Cheeks Swollen Significantly. What Can I Do ?

I went to the dentist yesterday to replace a filling. He gave me a few novacaine shots and noticed that my cheeked swelled up significantly which never happened before. I am home now almost 24 hours and while it has reduced, it still looks like I have a chipmunk cheek on one side. What can I do? It doesn't hurt except if I smile. It is not black and blue - just puffy.

Please do visit a dentist if symptoms exists.

Hi
Welcome to HCM forum,
Sometimes these kind of side effects occur with such agents but do not worry
Your swelling will go away soon, just don't apply heat which will increase the swelling.

1. Apply ice

2. Also take Advil / Motrin / Ibuprofen 800mg to reduce swelling further.

Relax, you'll be fine :)
Take care

Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

please do not be worried,it should recover soon. The injection should be administered at a very slower rate also keeping in view that the needle has no air bubbles in it, causing emphysema.

This phenomenon is seen due to that.Do not worry.slowly it should subside.

Hope it helps.

Thanks.

Take care.
