Dear monyelatj.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

As your history suggests that you are experiencing tongue peeling,it could be due to deficiency of vitamins like vitamin B 12.(Commonest cause)

It does not seem to be an allergic reaction because if it was so,it would have stopped when you changed your food habit.

Also, could you please explain what do you mean by, lost the sharpness of taste?
because this shows that you are taking about numbness in tongue?

you can take vitamin b supplements for 15 days and observe the changes.

If the symptoms persist even after that, then in this case i would suggest you to visit oral pathologist and get clinical evaluation done.

The pathologist might suggest you few biochemical test, which will give you exact diagnosis of the underlying pathology.

Hope it helps.

Thanks

Dentist Dr. Qazi Ammara's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Loss of taste sensation can be due to plenty of reasons like Gastric refux disease,
Poor oral hygiene , Mouth infection abscesses , Mouth ulcers , infection of Sinuses ,
Salivary gland infection , Tobocco use , in some patients with radiation therapy and some medicines .

Loss of taste can also be because of Vitamin B12 deficiency, Glossitis .

Get complete physical examination done to rule out the causes.

Take vitamin suplements .
Stop smoking habit if present , as long term smokers can suffer from sensory loss including taste and smell.

Drink plenty of water , if you are suffering from dehydration or dry mouth .

Avoid eating hot food and beverages .
Maintain a good oral hygiene .

Get complete physical and dental examination done to rule out medical or dental reasons for the loss of taste .

Hope this helps out .

Regards.......

Dentist Dr. Neha Gupta's  Response
Hello,
I am Dr.Neha Gupta (dentist) and am glad to address to your query here.

One of the most common reasons for the skin in the mouth to shed or peel is because of a burn, which can happen if you eat hot food or beverages.
Some medications can cause a reaction in the body that leads to the mouth shedding skin.
The type of treatment required to stop the skin in your mouth from shedding often largely depends on what's causing the problem. A minor burn may heal on its own after three or four days, while damage caused by immune disorders may require that the underlying diseases be treated before you experience any relief. You might need to change your personal habits.

Take care and please keep me informed of your progress at healthcaremagic through my profile directly.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement Dr. Saurabh Gupta's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query,
Drugs commonly impair taste by causing a loss of acuity or sharpness of taste (hygeusia) or distortion of function (dysgeusia) either by interfering in the chemical composition or flow of saliva, or by more specifically affecting the taste receptor function or signal transduction. Dry mouth also disturbs taste perception.
Conditions such as radiation-induced xerostomia and Bell's palsy generally improve over time.
Specialized procedures such as functional imaging, endoscopy and biopsy with pathologic evaluation are available
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful
