Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

The inflammation and swelling resulting after an injury will take certain time to heal and settle down. You cannot appreciate instant result with medications. It may take around 2-3 weeks to come to normalcy, if it is only a soft tissue injury.
If there is any associated bony injury also, it will take much more time to heal.

- Avoid activities that cause pain, swelling or discomfort
- Apply ice packs to the injured for 15 to 20 minutes at a time, four to eight times a day for several days
- Elevate you foot end, most of the times in a day so as to reduce the swelling

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
