My dad has been sick for weeks now , never fully feeling back to normal. He said he feels stuffy site throat and can feel his lymph nodes in neck swollen.today he blew his nose and this quarter sized chunk came out..yellow brown in color, slight hard but soft like cartilage with green mucous. Do you think its the built up crust it could it be something more severe?

Hi and thanks for the question,
It would be interesting knowing if your dad has any nasal congestion symptoms. If its the case, your dad might have post nasal drip resulting from chronic sinusitis.
Yellowish discharge, dark brown are very suggestive of a bacterial infection.
A clinical evaluation by an ENT specialist shall be required to exclude or diagnose sinusitis, pharyngitis or allergic rhinitis.
Examination of the pus, culture and sensitivity tests might be necessary for an appropriate diagnosis and management. Depending on the clinical examination, other tests like sinus X rays with Hirtz and Blondeau incidences could be of much diagnostic help.
I suggest you consult an ENt specialist for management.
Thanks and best regards as I hope this helps,

Hi thanks for your question.
Most probably your Dad is having pharyngitis(infection of throat) along with rhinits. The swollen lymh nodes are due to pharyngitis. You are right in assecessing that the yellow brown materaial which he sneezed out is crust of mucos.
He needs antibiotic, antihistiminics and decongestant for relief of his symptoms.Consultation with an ENT specialist is advisible.
Hope this answers your question.

hi,
whats your dads age?
for how many weeks he is suffering?
what are the associated symptoms?
from your data it seems to be infective origin.
in sinusitis many a times a chunk of solid mucous comes out with cough.
neck node may be due to sinusitis, pharyngitis, dental problems and so on.
so you should consult a ent specialist to evaluate the cause of it.
if its due infection then whats the cause of it.
its very important for giving antibiotic.
hope this will help.
good luck.
