Taking Warfarin After Pacemaker Placed. Have A Bruise. Need To Be Concerned?

I have had a pacemaker for 7 years. It was implanted after I had my aortic valve replaced. I also take warafin daily. I noticed that there is a bruise about the size of a half dollar directly over the pacemakes site. I haven't sustained any kind of injury and I haven't done anything more stressful that usual. Is this anything to be concerned about?

Hi,
Warfarin thins the blood and a side-effect of this is that you will bruise easily. If you have been taking warfarin for some time you may have already noticed this. Minor bruising of the skin is not serious. I assume you have your blood checked regularly so that the dose of warfarin can be adjusted appropriately.
The fact that there is a bruise over the pacemaker site does not mean the pacemaker has been damaged. If you have not been aware of any impact over the pacemaker site this would also suggest there has been no underlying damage.
The bruise my take a few days to disappear but is unlikely to have damaged your pacemaker.
