Taking Miscardis, Atenolol/chorthalidone For Hypertension. After Taking Prozac, BP Is Reduced. Side Effects Taking These Combination?
I've been taking micardis and atenolol/chorthalidone for hypertension. measuring my bp at home I've been getting readings of 120 to134 with diastolics of 84 to 92. These are measured at approximately the same time each morning before any activities. My pulse however had been in the 40 to 50 range before I began the series of measurements I referred to. My MD said to cut the beta blocker in half, which I did. I also began to take Prozac at the same time (MD recommended it). My BP now has gone up to 140/100. Question: is the reduction in beta blocker dosage responsible or is it the Prozac or a combination. My MD is off Fridays until Monday. I'm prepared to stop the Prozac.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Praveen's Response
Both Prozac & halving beta blocker might be responsible for your elevated blood pressure.Prozac is an antidepressant and these class of drugs cause a dose dependent rise in BP.You may stop Prozac until consultation with doctor. These is not harm.Donot worry.Take care.Hope this helps you.
