Taking Lipitor For High Cholesterol. Shortness Of Breath While Climbing. Stress Test Normal. Can Reduce Cholesterol Drugs?

I am taking high cholesterol preventing drugs for the last 20 years. At peak it was near to 300. now for last 5 years it is near 225 with Lipitor drugs. A am 58 years and quite active. I generally walk about 5 kms a day six times a week and also do yoga for 20 minutes a day. ( Exercises prescribed in MR. SADAHIV NIMBALKAR'S BOOK). I do feel short of breath while climbing stairs and also my natural walking speed is lower than a person of 50-55. Stress tests every year for the last 5 years showed ok results. I do not smoke or drink and take 7 hours sleep every day. Should I reduce/ give up for 6 months cholesterol preventive drugs to give my liver some rest. I am prepared to take a calculated risk.

1. since you have not mentioned about your weight so it is not possible to label you as "Obese" or "Over weight", which could be one of the cause of high lipid profile.
2. You must learn to calculate the calories consumed as well as calories burnt, and maintain the balance everyday, you cannot burn more than 300 calories through exercise everyday! so it is extremely important to control your Dietary regime along with whatever exercise you do.
3. Avoid: bitter, ghee, cheese, cream, deep fried foods, potatoes, sweet potatoes, beet, nuts, yam, banana,mango,chickoos,grapes,chocolates,cakes,pastries,ice-creams,jams,processed and tinned foods.
4. Opt for fresh foods, thin soup, salads, drink plenty of water, and diluted butter milk, take rotis or phulkas without oil or ghee, green leafy vegetables with oil substituted with gravy.
5. Onion, garlic, soya bean, curds of skimmed milk, apple actually help to reduce cholesterol, increase the fibre intake, as fibres reduce the cholesterol absorption from the gut, fruits with edible covers should be eaten with covers.
6. regarding Medicine modification, you should consult your Physician regarding the same and at no time discontinue on your own.
