Taking Erythromycin For Sinus Infection. Have Stomach Cramping And Nausea. Can I Use A Different Antibiotic?

I started erythromycin 2 days ago for a sinus infection (500 mg 2x/day for 10 days). The congestion/sinus symptoms have improved dramatically but I am experiencing nausea for several hours after taking each dose, plus stomach cramping/flatulence all day. The pain in my upper stomach causes difficulty in falling asleep. Should I switch to a different antibiotic? I am allergic to penicillin and sulfa.

hello,
thank you for this question,
your problem is part of erythromicin side effects. The most common are:Fever
nausea
skin rash, redness, or itching
stomach pain (severe)
unusual tiredness or weakness
vomiting

What i suggest you is to make a bacterial culture of your sinus mucoses, to check out the bacterias on it. They also will to the antibiogram test indicating all the effective antibiotics for your problem.
Some other anibiotics may be amoxyciline, cafaclor, clarithromycin, azithromycin etc
I find this answer helpful
