Swollen Upper Lip Like Bug Bite. No Hardness And Itching. Took Aleve Tablet. History Of Allergic Reaction To Bactrim. Thoughts?
Hi. My top lip swelled up severely for no apparent reason around 6 last night. Felt like a bug bite or something but in half an hour whole upper lip was huge. Can't pinpoint anything specific took an Aleve tablet at 3.30 yesterday, ate some raw green beans around 5.30 (that's something I would normally do). No new cosmetics. Feels like allergic reaction but would aleve do that 3hrs after taking the tablet? What is in it? I had an anaphylactic reaction to Bactrim (sulfas) many years ago and sensitive to pennicilin - feels like that. Took an antihistamine tablet and no further symptoms but lip is still quite puffy though not hot and itchy now. A bite maybe?
with your history of severe allergic reactions in the past and description of the appearance, it does sound like a localized allergic reaction, such as a contact or allergic dermatitis. This is further supported if the antihistamines made a significant difference. If you had no significant outdoor exposure, an insect bite is far less likely, particularly confined to that area.
