Swollen Knuckle And Pain Following An Injury Which Required Stitches And Tendon Repair. Treatment?
Hi there, about 3 years ago I cut my knuckle on glass. It was quite deep and required several stitches, and I also subsequently required the reparation of a tendon that was damaged yet not noticed at first. Whilst over time there is now little pain in my hand, the swelling on my knuckle has hardly gone down at all (I now fear it is scar tissue), and the scar itself is still easily visible. I was just wondering if you had any suggestions to help to reduce the swelling or at least make it look somewhat less unsightly than it currently does. Many thanks
I consider you require thorough reassessment by plastic surgeon. It's important to rule out any residual non healed extensor tendon. If you are not able to completely extend the finger it's highly likely that there is residual overlooked injury to extensor tendon. The swelling could be either due to scar tissue or chronic inflammation in ruptured extensor tendon. Get an appointment with your plastic surgeon
Take care
