Swollen Cheek, Hard And Painful Small Bump On Jawline, White Film With Bad Odor On Tongue. History Of Extraction Of Wistom Teeth. Guide

It's been 5 days after I had 3 wisdom teeth extracted and so far I just have a swollen cheek that has been getting smaller by each day. However, there's a small bump by my jawline that feels almost as hard as bone, and hurts when I touch it. Also, today I noticed a white film on my tongue that has a bad odor to it. Will the bump go away in a matter of time? And is the white film something I need to worry about? I've cleaned it with a toothbrush, but the the top of my tongue feels weird in my mouth.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

I would like to tell you that wisdom tooth extraction is always associated with post operative complications like pain and swelling.
As you are on the course of antibiotics and analgesics, the swelling will subside after sometimes by itself.
I would suggest you to take lukewarm saline and antiseptic mouthwash rinses.
Clean the tongue with the tongue scraper or a soft bristle toothbrush.
Maintain a good oral hygiene, drink plenty of water and keep yourself hydrated.

Hope you find this as helpful,

Regards.

Hello,

Welcome to healthcaremagic.

Bump developed after extraction of wisdom tooth may be due to hematoma formation or due to dry socket development.

I would advice you to get the socket irrigated with betadine and curetted well.

Apply eugenol, betadine as well as lignocaine solution at the socket to enhance wound healing.

Maintain oral hygiene well.

Avoid spicy foods.

Take complete course of antibiotics-analgesics.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,
Thank you for asking the query

Post operative care is very important after wisdom tooth extraction.
Unnecessary pain and the complications of infection and swelling can be minimized if the instructions are followed carefully.

1.The swelling that is normally expected is usually proportional to the surgery involved. There is usually a fair amount of cheek retraction involved with the removal of impacted wisdom teeth.36 hrs following surgery the application of moist heat to the side of the face may help some in reducing the size of any swelling that has formed.pain and swelling is expected after surgery to last for 4-5 days.follow the prescription given by your dentist.

2.Bump is due to bony wall that supports the tooth and now protruding through the gum.they occur mostly in lower tooth extractions and resolve spontaneously.contact your dentist for follow up examination of extraction site.

3.use a soft tooth brush or tongue scraper to clean the white film.

4.Drink plenty of fluids and good oral hygiene is essential for proper healing of any oral surgery site.

5.Gargle your mouth with salt water(luke warm water mixed with tea spoon of salt) especially after eating.
