Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my grandsons ages, 6 & 8 have diminishing strep throat symptoms. The symptoms were severe through the week end. Since they are diminishing the doctors decided to not treat with antibiotics unless the current symptoms persist or worsen. I am nervous about the possibility of Rhumatic fever as the symptoms and time of year all point to Strep. Is there home remedies available we can provide to support their healing and prevent possible Rhumatic illness?
Effective management of streptococcal throat infection is important in prevention of rheumatic fever. Early treatment with antibiotics is important. You should take care in preventing further episodes of throat infection. You should make your grandsons do regular saline gargles on waking up in the morning and immediately before going to sleep.
Immunity boosters should be added in diet. Use of turmeric and vitamin C rich food like gooseberry should be increased in the diet. You should be aware of symptoms of rheumatic fever like joint pain, fever, pain that moves between joints, jerky uncontrolled movements of body called chorea, painless nodules in skin near joints and heart murmurs. Prevention of recurrence of another episode of strep infection is most important.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
