Hello,
indeed, your daughter is small for her age in terms of height. Furthermore, her BMI (
body mass index), as calculated given the height and weight values that you shared with us, does show that she is very
underweight.
I suggest that you approach a
pediatrician and share your concerns with him. As of now, the amount of information that you are telling us is not sufficient to reach a conclusion, however, I can suggest some possibilities to you.
Chronic medical conditions might be a cause of slowed growth. Is there any chronic illness that she suffers from? Some drugs might also decrease appetite and hence causing slowing of growth.
Also, we should consider the possibility that she might be voluntarily underfeeding herself. You might want to talk to her and see whether she has a good body image of herself, or whether she thinks she is
overweight. In that case, she might be trying to induce
vomiting or voluntarily take less food.
I would also suggest visiting her cardiologist to evaluate her cardiac function. Sometimes decreased cardiac function can decrease growth potential. However, other symptoms might lag behind and appear later, hence it is always good to check the cardiac function in that case.
It is good that you noticed this problem. I hope that you find the cause of the problem soon.
