Suggest Treatmnet For Loss Of Appetite, Fever And Sore Throat

My son at college went to a med express with these symptoms: sore throat with white spots, swollen glands and neck, loss of appetite, congestion, chills and fever. The quick strep test was negative but they prescribed a steroid. Does that seem right? If he has white spots on his throat and fever, doesn't that indicate infection? Is a steroid ok in that case?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns....

As per your complain the symptoms of sore throat, white spots , fever, congestion and swollen lymph nodes is an indication of viral throat infection along with secondary bacterial infection..
The white spots seems to be pustules secondary to bacterial infection..
I would suggest you to give him Antibiotics like Levofloxacin or Augmentin, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Advil, steroid can help in faster reduction in inflammation and ease the symptoms, do warm saline gargles, steam inhalations and decongestants oral as well as nasal sprays to relieve congestion..
Take Vitamin C supplements to improve immunity and suck throat lozenges.
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Drink plenty of warm fluids and avoid spicy and hard foods..
Take ample of rest..
In case of no improvement consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
