My mother is a diabetic. Her bmp came back three weeks ago with high results. THe doctor took her off her 2000 mg metformin at that time and left her on her junevea. Her blood sugars were all over the 2 board and last week he added actos 10mg to take. I just took her blood sugar and it was 290 (the highest it has ever been.) She ate around 7:30 and had a large helping of turkey and dressing, sweet potato and cranberry relish. Should I do anything tonight. Thanks My email address is YYYY@YYYY
Hello there, I understand your concern about your mother's sugar levels. Currently at 290 her sugar levels are definitely high. I assume you took the reading 2 hours after the meal you described which is quite loaded in carbohydrate. However the reading of 290 is not alarmingly high that it needs some urgent remedy. In my opinion try to reduce the carbohydrate content of her meals for now. More of vegetables and salads and proteins but less of carbohydrates. Try to discuss with your diabetologist about bringing her sugars to lower levels. It would have helped me to know your mother's age and if she has any other problems like high blood pressure, any heart related condition or kidney functions. The target sugar levels change with other problems that a patient may have. So for now do not worry, keep her well hydrated and try to include some diet changes. Hope this helps. Take care.
