Suggest Treatment To Prevent The Jaw From Locking In Place

Hello there,

My jaw has had a tendency over the past few years to lock in place but recently, my jaw locks in place whenever I go to move it i.e.eat, drink, talk, brush my teeth etc...just wondering what I can do to prevent it from worsening??

Thanks in advance!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that recurring locking of your jaw on different movements like eating drinking, talking, brushing etc seems to be due to jaw dislocation and can be due to traumatic injury to the face, jaw joint dysfunction etc..
While it can be recurring if once as it is dislocated and does not go back to fit completely into the base of skull, then it leads to repeated dislocations..

First of all consult an Oral Physician or an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Panoromic x-ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

If the jaw is not located properly then at times manual location of the jaw will be done by the physician..
You can also be advised physiotherapy to strengthen the muscles and supporting structures of jaw joint..
In case if nothing helps surgical correction can be advised..
As of now avoid excess mouth opening and take soft diet..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
