Suggest Treatment To Control Blood Sugar

My fasting blood sugar has been 120 and 129. I am running between 160 to 200 after three hours. I had two fasting blood sugars done at a lab and both were high. But my A1C came back normal. My doctor said it was nothing to worry about. My highs always seen to be at night and in the morning. During the day I am usually normal.

Though your A1c levels are normal it would be ideal to eliminate the swings in blood glucose levels. Glycemic excursions as they are known co-relates well with long term complications. Though the numbers you have mentioned above looks fairly ok to eliminate the swings you should start on an oral hypoglycemic agent. Metformin 500 mg SR in the evening should be good to start. You can check your blood glucose profile 2 weeks later and titrate the drug accordingly. Avoid a high carbohydrate diet at night and add enough proteins to dinner so that the peaks can be avoided. Hope it helps. Take care.
