Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello and thank you for using HCM!
I can understand your concern and i will try to answer your questions.
TSH 8.35 shows that thyroid function is low. The most common cause that leads to underfunction of the thyroid gland at this age is the autoimmune disease (thyroiditis Hashimto) wich may be confirmed by measuring the titter of antibodies. Once this diagnosis is confirmed, i may inform you that it is a chronic disease and the treatment will be for long. We can not speak of cure rather than treatment for this disease.
What is the most important (and you rightly are concerned) is the pregnancy.
She should absolutely correct the TSH level before planning a pregnancy.High TSH values may cause malformation to the fetus, but if treated properly there is not any harm.
Being an autoimmune disease, there is no diet effective until now.
Hope you got the information you required.

Kind regards,
Dr.M.guni

Endocrinologist Dr. Mirjeta Guni's  Response
Hello,
I have gone carefully through your report and I can understand your query.

First I would like to ask you some questions;

-What is the age of your wife?
-Does she have symptoms of hypothyreosis (weight gain, constipation, feeling sleepy, hair loss ect.)?
-Are you planning a pregnancy?
-Does she have other diagnosed pathologies?
-Did she do any other hormonal examination except TSH? FT4, FT3?

I would like to know these information because the decision rather to start a treatment or not (with this TSH level) depends by the above factors.
In general hypothyroidism is a chronic disease but it may be treated easily and the diet is not efficient in these cases.

Kindly answer the following question so that I can guide you better..

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta Guni
