Suggest Treatment For Yeast Infection With Itchy, Swollen And Sore Vagina

I have a normal, active, healthy sex life, I m in a mutually monogamous long term relationship and have been for several years. I suddenly came down with symptoms of a yeast infection and treated myself with Monistat1. It seemed to have an improvement, but not much at all really, so I did it again. It is now day 3 and I no longer have the severe internal discomfort or discharge, but just around the hymen area, inside and out, is so irritated, itchy, swollen and sore I can hardly stand it! It didn t itch this bad until after I put the medicine in. That part is feeling worse and even more raw and itchy! Any ideas!?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
have gone through your query. It is better to a swab test to rule out yeast infection or other conditions like bacterial vaginosis. There is possibility of allergic reaction to clotrimazole also. In such case change to another drug like miconazole or terbinafine will be helpful. Taking fluconazole orally also helps. For reducing the itching taking anti histamines like cetrizine will be helpful. Avoid using soaps and irritants to wash the genital area and instead you can use saline or warm water. You can also use intimate wash regularly to normalize vaginal bacterial flora and PH.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
