Suggest Treatment For Wheezing, Cold, Difficulty Breathing And Runny Nose

Yesterday I had a common cold. In the middle of the night I woke up wheezing and unable go breathe properly. I have the same breathing problem all day. I still have a runny nose and a headache, and phlem from the mouth. However, my ribs and chest hurt from the poor breathing.
In the past I have had to go to a drop in centre for similar breathing problems, they said that it was my asthma playing up. However I have never been diagnosed with asthma.
This has happened twice before in my life but not for about 4 years.

The breathing is rapid, unstable and heavy sounding and feeling.
Thanks.

Hello there,
I can understand your trouble. You seem to be having an allergic cough and cold. In this situation one does experience difficulty in breathing as the wind pipe and bronchioles (tubes passing air in the lungs) get narrow and produce too much secretion. Sometimes there may be added infection above the allergy. Although a thorough clinical examination is needed, if I were to treat you I would suggest an anti allergic like Allegra 180 mg and Deriphyllin retard 2 times a day for a few days. After confirming infection an antibiotic can be started. Sometimes steam inhalation may help but be careful if it irritates your wind pipe then it wont do you much good. It may not be asthma but some milder allergic reaction.
Do visit a physician who can examine you and suggest the treatment I mentioned to you as these are prescription drugs.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
