Suggest Treatment For Wet Farts In Kids

Hi my nearly 4year old grandson has been having wet farts for the past week or so. He seems to be very much his normal self and eats a good and varied diet. On visiting the toilet for a bowel movement he has an enormous amount of wind, the stool is usually quite large, soft with some mucous. He doesn t complain of any pain. After passing the stool if he has a fart he also soils his pants with sloppy poo-only a little each time he farts. Today he has got through 8 lots of pants. should we be worried?

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hi....whether this symptom has to be evaluated or not has to be decided after knowing the duration of the symptom. If the kid is doing it recently then I don't think you need to worry about it. But if he has been doing this without achieving proper bowel control since early childhood then it needs evaluation for lax anal sphincter. I suggest you consult your pediatrician regarding this.
