Suggest Treatment For Weight Gain While On Seroquel
I ve been on Seroquel XR 250 for several years. Over that time I have gained around 70 lbs. My primary doctor, my cardiologist, my pulmonary doc, my psychiatrist etc. all want me to lose weight, so do I. I have been following a sound balanced diet (not calorie restricted which is counter-productive). I also am walking approx. 1/2 mile 2x/week and swimming 1/3 mile 2x/week. Since I started this routine January 21, 2017 I have lost 7 lbs. It is an uphill battle. In conversations with providers and pharmacists, they have all pretty much said that any medication like Seroquel will have the same side-effects. Are you aware of any suitable substitute I can discuss with my doctor without this side-effect (wt gain)? Thanks.

Seroquel or Quetiapine is known to result in significant weight. This is the reason you have gained much weight. Now coming to options. One option is to add some drug that results in weight loss and also supplement the drug. Topiramate is a mood stabilizer drug and is known to result in weight loss. You can talk with your doctor about this.
Another option is to replace Seroquel with another drug with similar action but no or less weight gain. Aripiprazole can be used. The drug has great efficacy and has no weight gain and is metabolically safe. You can talk with your doctor about this.
