Hi,I am Dr. Radhakrishna (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter is 12 and has been menustrating for a little over a year. She complains of having pain in vulva area and in lower abdominal area at times. During a wellness check, the doctor did a just look examination...my daughter did not tell her about pains..she is afraid of having an actual exam. I was thinking she was having growing pains in the ligaments but I am wondering now if it is something else and I probably should have her doctor see her again. Do you think they would do an actual gyn exam on her at this age? That worries me as well! I am going to have her start charting any pain and symptoms on a calendar while charting her cycle as well.
Hi. Charting is the best way to differentiate between menstrual pains , PMS and other reasons. Psychological aspect too shall be kept in mind without actually discussing anything with your Daughter. IT is not the ligaments which cause the problems. Yes, the Gynecologist will definitely definitely see her for any problem related to hymen, which if too much intact or is imperforate needs a small surgery. Actual Gynecological examination is never done on a child of your daughter' age. Ultrasonography during the pain and / during menstruation can help us to get more information.
