Suggest Treatment For Vomiting In An Elderly Person
My 96 yr old mother is very nauseated and vomiting and of course today is a holiday. I have 25 mg of Phenergan po and gave it to her and my daughter who is an L& D nurse came unglued. She says they don t even give Phenergan any more in the hospital and at her age she should never have it. I also am an RN, but retired for 3 years, we gave it all the time. Is this something new?

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns
There are many causes of nausea and vomiting but if there is no improvemnet on dietary changes and medications, it would be good to do some specific tests such as gastroscopy and barium swallow test to rule out obstruction of esophagus or stomach which may be present in this age. Till this, she should eat liquid dit, take Reglan and drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
