Suggest Treatment For Vomiting, Diarrhea And Fever

My husband is experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, chills, joint pain (from vomiting), and a fever. He can only feel comfortable in the shower with hot water on him or he feels like he s going to throw up. We re debating on going to the hospital. Thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi it looks gastroenteritis. Is he tolerating oral sips of water? Does he vomit water too? Does he have any health conditions like diabetes hypertension? If he doesn't have any health conditions and is tolerating water orally you can give him electrolyte water (ORS and the likes or sugar and salt water). The diarrhea and vomiting will subside in a day or two. For fever chills and joint pain he can take paracetamol. If he is not tolerating anything orally appears too sick or has diabetes/hypertension, it's better to go to the hospital. Some IV fluids will make him comfortable along with some medication will accelerate his recovery. I hope this helps. Take care :)
