Suggest Treatment For Vitiligo

Dear Doctor, I am suffering with Vitiligo for last 6-7 years and almost 75-80 % of my body is covered with this white patches. Now I am thinking of whitening my whole body. But I just want to know whether I can do it part by part (i.e. only where I have my natural color as black spot) Instead of taking any tablets is there any lotion or cream to apply on the black spot.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

Since you have extensive skin involvement with vitiliginous patches, therefore, depigmenting existing normal skin is the only feasible option to achieve uniform complexion.
This is achieved by topical application of a monobenzyl ether of hydroquinone. This topical preparation completely and irreversibly destroys melanocytes and thus depigment existing normal skin.
This is a prescription product and therefore I suggest that you talk to your dermatologist for the needful.
Since vitiliginous skin is completely devoid of melanin therefore it is prone to sunburn easily.
In order to prevent this complication of sunburn I suggest that you regularly use a broad spectrum sunscreen specially when outdoors and more so when the sun is particularly strong during the day i.e 10AM to 2 PM.

Regards
