Hi, Iam a female, 37 years old, married with 1 son. My problem is I have very delayed periods once in 45 days. I have an history of PCOD and concieved with the help of Metformin. Also now having skin problems. Started getting vitiligo patches on my hand and feet. My mom has vitiligo. Both mom and Dad and grandparents are diabetic. Also having psorasis on my private parts. My question is are my skin problems related to my PCOD. Should i go to a Gyne or an endocrinologist? What kind of tests should my Dr prescribe and also the kind of treatment?

Hi..

As per your complain Vitiligo is a skin condition in which there is loss of pigmentation in patches in different areas of body thereby forming white patches on skin..
It occurs due to damage to the melanocytes in certain areas of body which are pigment producing cells producing Melanin and provides colour to skin..

As you said you have a few small patches it shows that it is in its initial stage and immediate treatment can help in preventing progression and can also help in faster resolution..

Consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and also advise investigations like biopsy from the depigmented areas..
You can be advised to apply steroid ointments over the depigmented areas of skin..
It should be done for not more that 2 months and that too under the supervision of the dermatologist as steroids can cause certain side effects..
You can also be advised spot Oxsoralen therapy..
PUVA photochemotherapy can also be benificial..
In case of small areas skin grafting can also be advised if other mechanisms does not help..

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
