Suggest Treatment For Urinary Infection In Pregnant Women

Hi Doctor,

My Wife is 21 weeks pregnant and we did a Urine Routine test and the following are the result which cause some concern

Pus cells : 5-6

Epithelial cells : 10-12

Others : Bacteria present

Please help understand this. Is there any serious problem?

Presence of 5-6 pus cells and bacteria suggest UTI

Since she is in her 21 st weeks of pregnancy you can give he antibiotics like Cephalosporin and Nitrofurantoin which is safe antibiotic that can be given in pregnancy along with urine alkalizer with precaution to take these medications only for short duration ( Not more than 10 days) so as to avoid any side effects on baby .

Ensure that she drinks more water .Do not worry it is common to get UTI in third trimester of pregnancy .
