Suggest Treatment For Upper Respiratory Infection

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and viral pharyngitis, both which I believe to have been caused from socially smoking hookah. It feels like my throat is swollen or like something is caught in it (though it is not blocking air passage nor is there an obstruction). Now I am getting a mild pang of pain every so often in my chest on the right side, an inch or two away from my collar bone. Should this be a concern? I have had bedrest up until 2 when I was mildly active.

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have upper respiratory infection along with viral pharyngitis and you are having chest pain along with that which is a matter of definite concern. I would suggest you to start with course of antiviral and anti-inflammatory drugs for upper respiratory tract infection. Do warm saline gargles 3-4 times a day with lukewarm water. Take diet rich in fruits rich in vitamin C as it will boost your immunity. If symptoms of chest pain and upper respiratory tract infection keeps on persisting visit cardiologist and ENT specialist once and get it examined to rule out any underlying cardiac pathology. Cardiologist may prescribe ECG to confirm any systemic condition.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
