I am an adult and have a problem with an uncontrolled bowel movement soiling my under garments.I am taking metamucil, but it does not seem to help.My doctor told me after an examination, that because of my age 91 I have lost muscle control in that area.Would appreciate any advise!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of a 91 year old having uncontrolled bowel movements soiling under garments, taking metamucil but does not seem to work, Doctor told about loose muscle control due to age of 91 causing this problem.
I can understand the problem one gets after getting old.
Yet, to get a confirmed diagnosis and to watch for any possible management consult a General Surgeon for per-rectal examination, anoproctoscopy, colonoscopy barium enema and manometry to decide the exact cause so that possible treatment can be done
