Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I used to have bad ulcers and now i am starting to have issues with keeping food down and having a pain in my tailbone area after vomiting. Is that normal or could there be another issue that could be causing my tailbone to hurt just from the action of vomiting? My tailbone has been broken before about 10 years back.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history about your suffering from ulcer and pain in the tail bone which was broken 10 years ago. The pain started again after vomiting episode. The probable cause can be reactivation of the inflammation of the tail bone due to the muscles attached to it going into spasm during the act of severe vomiting or retching. I would advise you the following: Get started with a PPI and antacid to get a control over the gastritis/ulcer. If no relief go for upper GI Endoscopy to get the correct diagnosis and get started with proper treatment. The tail bone pain can be tackled with Sitz bath, hot fomentation. Since you have ulcer problem nothing can be given orally as anti-inflammatory medicines can increase the ulcer problem. The tail bone can be checked by per-rectal examination and local anesthetic injection and or steroid injection can be tried to get control over the tail bone problem or can be excised to give you permanent results.
